Monky Gaming

The Complete History of Our Community

Monky Gaming has a long history of friendship, gaming, all-nighters, relationships, and more. We're a community that started from nothing but a handful of gta sa players that's grown over 10 years into a group of long-time friends always welcoming new members. Below, we'll share our official lore with you as well as some fun stories from the past and present.

Pre-Monky Gaming Lore (From the Beginning)

Back in 2013 I was searching for some PC game mods to make the games more interesting. I stumbled across a GTA SA mod called Multi Theft Auto that put the game online and decided to give it a try - I had no idea what I was doing so I just started joining random servers here and there. I ended up settling on a Romanian freeroam server (even though I speak zero Romanian) and the owner happened to be online. He welcomed me and showed me around, sort of explained how MTA works and how his server works. At the time Discord didn't exist either, so we added each other on Skype and went on to become online buds. Down the line in 2014 I started a team/faction on that server called Psycho Mans Gang, or PMG. The group was inspired by his in-game military team that was the most powerful around. We wanted to become the best military team around so I recruited a bunch of Romanian players in the server to join our cause and eventually we became a sizeable group with tactics, planning, and skill that challenged the owner's team. This team followed me through this server until it shut down and grew through two other Romanian freeroam servers before our eventual collapse in 2017. On it's collapse, a handful of Romanian players stayed with me as I moved to new things, and others chose not to follow. In early 2016, myself and another PMG member discovered an English roleplay server called Owlgaming. Coming from freeroam servers this was like nothing we'd ever seen before - hyper-realism, a well-made script, thousands of players pretending like it was a real world. We were intimidated at first not having any idea how to do any of this properly and within their rules, but soon learned the ropes and immersed ourselves in the world of roleplay. A couple other PMG members followed and we spent what turned out to be years in this community. Personally, during this time is where I met some foundational friends - some I'm still friends with today. Owlgaming was a core part of all of our high school and college experiences, and nothing could replace it. At one point I was in a delivery faction called SLD and the faction leaders found out about Discord, so they told all us employees we had to create a Discord account and move away from Skype if we wanted to stay employeed there - so I did. I was super against having "the new thing" at the time and had no interested in trying Discord, but ended up loving it. About a week after I made my account I made a personal server for just my Owlgaming friends, old PMG members, and whoever else from my Skype list wanted to join. We had anywhere from 30-70 members at different times and the server became the central hub of our game time - which at that time was nearly all day every day. As time went on the server opened up to not only Owl players, but also friends I'd met from other Discord servers and even some real life friends as well - we'd game, hang in voice calls all day and night chatting, and do whatever we wanted as a group of kids and young adults together online. This Server was my online "home" for years and on our last server name change, we decided to name it The Grand Monky Haus in wake of years of monky/monke memes that started in 2017 and kept making its way around the internet. Strictly for fun, we adpoted the Monky meme and made it our "thing" for quite a while - and that's where Monky Gaming Community originally came from.
